A budget deficit in Geoplanetical is a reason to examine the revenue and spending proposal before committing more money. The useful controls are in Budget → Revenue & taxes and Budget → Spending. Make changes there, compare the projected balance, and apply the package rather than assuming a slider edit has already changed policy.
Prepare a budget proposal
Open Budget → Revenue & taxes to inspect the government's income sources. The official wiki documents income tax, employee and employer contributions, and VAT categories for individual products. You can adjust these alongside expenditure under Budget → Spending.
The edits belong to one shared proposal. Compare current and projected revenue, spending and balance to see whether your planned combination improves the forecast. This is more informative than looking at a single tax rate in isolation.
The official budget instructions explain how to prepare and commit this package. They do not provide a universal tax rate or spending cut that fixes every country.
Check the effect before applying it
For income-tax changes, open the detailed editor and use Test a household to inspect the calculation. Marginal rates apply by band, and the personal allowance is a separate rule. A household preview helps you understand the proposed tax treatment; it does not itself change a real household or the national policy.
Review the budget-wide forecast as well. A reform that raises revenue or lowers expenditure can have consequences beyond the balance figure, so use the available previews when choosing your package.
When ready, select Apply in the Budget project bar. Discard abandons the draft and reloads the current budget. Do not count a forecast improvement as an adopted reform before applying it.
Resolve a blocked or stale proposal
If Apply is unavailable, wait for the forecast and correct flagged values. The official wiki requires increasing income-tax thresholds and rates that remain level or rise between bands.
If the game reports that the budget has changed, discard the stale proposal and prepare the reform again. Repeating an outdated draft is different from adopting an up-to-date budget.
Keep financing separate from deficit reduction
Budget → Summary contains borrowing controls. A loan can add cash if markets will lend, but it also adds debt and annual interest; it is separate from applying tax and spending reforms. Read that preview instead of treating borrowed cash as new recurring revenue.
Earlier instructions call the available funds Treasury. The October 29 1.0.2 notes rename that display to State cash. The terminology change does not make borrowing an automatic solution to an ongoing deficit.
Frequently asked questions
Does moving a tax slider enact the change?
No. Review the shared proposal and use Apply to commit it.
Is there one recommended tax rate for every country?
The registered instructions provide controls and forecasts, not a universal target. Base your reform on the country's own projected revenue, spending and balance.
Can borrowing eliminate my deficit?
Borrowing provides financing and creates repayment and interest obligations. It does not replace applying the revenue-and-spending proposal.
