Open negotiations during a war
Winning ground does not automatically produce a peace treaty. While directing a war in Geoplanetical, open Peace negotiations from the command controls. Review your negotiating margin and the opponent's response to the terms you propose.
The useful first question is whether you want a final settlement or simply a suspension of fighting. Those outcomes have different consequences for territory and the continuation of the war.
Select eligible territorial demands
For annexation, choose occupied provinces that are covered by your declared territorial war goals. Occupation provides military control; the settlement is what transfers sovereignty.
Click a selected province again to remove it from the offer. Clear all removes the demands so you can propose a white peace. Use the response shown in the negotiation rather than assuming a captured province must be accepted as a demand.
When the other side accepts the terms, select Sign the treaty. A rejected proposal leaves the war ongoing. After peace is concluded, inspect the war report for the settlement, duration and losses.
Understand ceasefires and armistices
The official FAQ also describes a ceasefire and an armistice as ways to stop fighting without settling territorial ownership. Both need acceptance, and forces hold their positions while the agreement applies.
A ceasefire has an expiry: fighting resumes automatically when it ends. An armistice has no automatic end date. Neither should be described as an annexation treaty just because it stops combat.
Breaking an active agreement damages relations and domestic support; breaking an armistice also costs stability. Review the agreement you actually have before making another military decision.
Judge the offer by its actual response
The negotiation screen's margin and response are more useful than assuming every conflict ends with the same terms. If the offer is rejected, the war continues; the documented controls do not promise that a specific demand, waiting period or battlefield result guarantees acceptance.
Use the developer's peace-negotiation instructions for the settlement sequence, and compare the result with your declared objectives.
FAQ
Can I annex any province I occupy?
The documented peace process limits annexation demands to occupied provinces covered by your declared territorial goals, and the offer still needs acceptance.
How do I propose a white peace?
Use Clear all to remove territorial demands, then review the opponent's response to the resulting offer.
Is an armistice a permanent border settlement?
No. It suspends fighting without automatically transferring sovereignty. A final territorial agreement is separate.
