Switching countries in Geoplanetical lets you approach the same campaign from a different political position. You do not need a new world to try another government or opposition party. The official instructions place that choice in the pause menu, with the existing world and date preserved.
Change your country from the pause menu
- Open the pause menu. Escape opens it and stops the simulation clock.
- Choose another country and political party through the pause menu's player-selection option.
- Select the role you want: a party in government or one in opposition.
- Continue in the existing campaign, with the same world and date.
The official Geoplanetical gameplay FAQ confirms this mid-campaign change. It does not specify a universal button label for the selection control, so use the country-and-party choice shown in your version's pause menu.
Choose a political role, not just a flag
Your party's position affects what you can do. A government can manage public finances, negotiate with other countries and direct the armed forces within its institutional authority. An opposition party instead organizes its resources, campaigns and uses the parliamentary powers available to it.
Opposition is not an inactive spectator mode. A party with legislative seats can sponsor bills, spending influence and still needing enough votes. Its options depend on the country's constitution and its representation.
Changing countries therefore gives you a new set of responsibilities inside the same ongoing simulation. It is not a promise that every office will have the same powers.
Continue after losing an election
An election defeat does not automatically end the campaign. If the result removes your party from government, the official FAQ describes three choices: remain in opposition, lead the party now governing, or play as another actor in the same world.
Losing a parliamentary majority also does not necessarily remove a separately elected president. Check the institutions before assuming that an election changed every office at once. If you want to continue your original party's story, changing sides is optional.
Frequently asked questions
Does switching countries reset the date?
No. The official FAQ says the campaign continues in the same world and at the same date.
Can I choose an opposition party?
Yes. The pause-menu choice supports parties in government and opposition, rather than requiring you to control the current government.
Do I have to restart after an election loss?
No. You can continue leading your party, take over the governing party, or choose another actor in the same campaign.
